PGT Window Installation: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
PGT window installation in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $450 to $1,850 per window installed, depending on the series, size, and whether you’re doing a single unit or a full-house impact overhaul. We stock PGT-specific hardware, balances, rollers, locks, and weatherstripping on our trucks, and most single-window installs are completed the same day we arrive. The way owners usually find us: a window won’t stay up, won’t lock, whistles during thunderstorms, or has a fogged pane that won’t clear.
We’re an independent Fort Lauderdale window and door installer, not a PGT corporate entity. That’s actually good news for you. We fix what’s in your opening and match it to what PGT designed, without running you through a corporate service pipeline.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
We install and service PGT’s full residential lineup, including WinGuard aluminum and vinyl impact lines, SpectraGuard, ClassicVue, and the 400/700/900 series. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: PGT changed hardware and balance specs between series generations, so a 2009 WinGuard 5400 lock won’t necessarily fit a 2019 WinGuard 5500. The easiest way to confirm is the AAMA certification label on the sash edge or the top rail. It lists the model, manufacturing date, and sometimes the glass make-up. If the label’s faded out, we measure the sash thickness and the existing screw holes or balance shoe profile on site.
For replacement hardware, we default to OEM PGT components when they’re still in production, because the hole patterns and finish line up without shimming. For older frames where PGT discontinued the part, we use aftermarket equivalents that match the original dimensions, not generic hardware that “almost” fits. Florida’s humidity and salt air expose a bad match fast: pitting on the keepers, binding in the tracks, and lock strikes that stop seating within a season.
Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing
- Sash won’t stay up or drops when released. The constant-tension balances inside the frame have lost tension or one side snapped. On PGT single-hung and double-hung units, our Fort Lauderdale crews see this two to three times more often in beachside homes, where salt air accelerates spring metal fatigue.
- Lock or keeper won’t align and the latch misses. Frame settlement or a worn corner weld shifts the sash just enough that the lock no longer seats. For impact-rated PGT windows, this is also a security issue: a lock that isn’t fully engaged means the window isn’t performing to its debris-resistance spec.
- Whistling or air movement around the sash edges. Weatherstripping has compressed or the frame-to-wall seal has dried out. In Fort Lauderdale’s wet season this gets worse quickly because driven rain works into those gaps and starts staining the drywall below the window.
- Condensation between the panes that won’t wipe away. The IG (insulated glass) seal has failed. PGT’s laminated impact glass doesn’t fog as often as non-impact dual-pane, but when it does, the fix is glass replacement, not just a hardware swap.
- Rollers on slider windows grinding or skipping. The nylon wheel is worn flat or the track has collected enough Fort Lauderdale grit to bind. You’ll feel it in the handle: resistance, a rough ride, then a pop when the wheel finally gives.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest breakdown for Fort Lauderdale PGT window installation work:
- Lock/latch replacement: $95 – $260 installed
- Single balance or constant-tension spring repair: $140 – $310 per sash
- Weatherstripping and exterior reseal: $180 – $420 per window
- Slider roller replacement: $170 – $380 per panel
- Insulated glass replacement (impact rated): $350 – $850 per pane, depending on size and Low-E coating
- Full window replacement with PGT product: $450 – $1,850 per installed window, depending on series, opening size, and structural fastening requirements
Every installed price includes the part, the labor, the sealant or shims the job needs, and a written quote before we touch anything. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers parts and labor in writing: if the window isn’t right, we make it right within a year of the install, no charge, no argument. You’ll also get the Relay Standard on every job: a live arrival time, before-and-after photos, and a digital invoice you can pay from a link.
DIY or Call Us?
If your PGT window just won’t lock or the sash is sticky, you can safely check two things: obstruction in the track and whether the lock needs cleaning or alignment. That’s it. What you should not attempt yourself is anything involving the constant-tension balances inside a PGT frame. Those springs hold significant tension, and the release process is specific to the series and generation. A wrong move can send a metal spring flying. The same caution applies to pulling an impact-rated sash out of its frame: those panels are heavy, and a dropped one cracks glass and bends frame corners.
If you’re in Fort Lauderdale and the window isn’t behaving, call us at (754) 354-1396. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a truck-stock fix or a full replacement, and we’ll give you a price range before we even schedule.
FAQs
Expect 10 to 15 years from PGT balances, rollers, and locking hardware in Fort Lauderdale’s heat and humidity, and on the lower end of that range if you’re within a mile or two of the Intracoastal or ocean, where salt air speeds up metal fatigue. Call (754) 354-1396 and we’ll give you a straight answer on whether yours is worth rebuilding or replacing.
Yes, if the frame is square, the glass is intact, and the failed part is serviceable, we repair PGT windows on site all over Fort Lauderdale. Repairs make sense for hardware, balances, weatherstripping, and even glass replacement; full replacement is the better call when the frame itself is warped, water-damaged, or outdated for current impact codes. Call (754) 354-1396 for a straight assessment and a written price either way.
Most PGT single-window hardware installs, locks, balances, or rollers, are completed in 30 to 90 minutes once we’re at the home, and our Fort Lauderdale crew carries common PGT parts on the truck to avoid a second visit. Full glass replacement usually takes a few hours plus a short cure time for the sealant. Call (754) 354-1396 to schedule, and you’ll get a live arrival time you can track.
We stock PGT-compatible locks, balances, rollers, and weatherstripping on our Fort Lauderdale trucks for the most common WinGuard and SpectraGuard series, and we source OEM or exact-fit parts for older or less common models with no markup above our normal pricing. If your part has to be ordered, we’ll tell you the lead time before you commit to anything. Call (754) 354-1396 and we’ll check availability for your specific model while you’re on the phone.
